Hey everyone! Welcome to Movie Pit. Movie Pit is a weekly movie review on TDN. All ratings for Movie Pit are based on the website Rotten Tomatoes, the free movie review website which judges if something is a ripe tomato (Above 60%) or a rotten tomato (Under 60%).
“Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2″ received a 59% on Rotten Tomatoes. This sequel received some great reviews. With the amazing cast of Bill Hader (Flint), Kristen Schaal (Barb), and many others, this animated comedy received a tasteful review from Miriam Bale with the New York Times. “Sometimes so strange, colourful and wildly cute that it may end up becoming a ‘Yellow Submarine’ for a new generation,” she said. Miriam was not the only one to give this movie praise. “This scrumptious sequel follows the same recipe as 2009 original,” was quoted by David Hiltbrand from the Philadelphia Inquirer.
However, along with these rather delightful reviews came some unfortunate blunders. Although this well put together comedy gave a great storyline, some were upset with centred on kids it is. “Adults can at least take solace in the fact that they’re in a dark theatre where no one can catch them snoozing. Just make sure you’re not a snorer,” was mentioned by Kristian Harloff on Schmoes Know. Likability for the adults was still not the biggest issue. Many critics believed that the idea just wasn’t original anymore. Tom Russo with the Boston Globe claimed that ”It’s another brightly rendered effort, but, as the title indicates, a lot of the real creativity seems to have been used up the first time around.”
As for Arizona reviews, on azcentral.com Bill Goodykoontz’s thoughts were that there was, “No sequel is necessary.”
I completely agree. I was able to see the movie myself and I think that the original “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs” was perfect the way it was. The second one was very centred around kids which I don’t believe the first one was as much. But if you’re interested, be sure to check out “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2″ in theatres now!
