Yes, There is an Apple Orchard in the Desert.

I couldn’t believe it either when I heard it. An apple orchard in the desert? The apple orchard is over thirty five years old and is found at Date Creek Ranch. Date Creek Ranch is a cattle ranch located approximately twenty miles north of Wickenburg.   The apples are a mix Golden Delicious and Granny Smith. The apples are organic and you can eat them right off the tree. If you pick apples with bruises you can feed them to the pigs or horses.

This past weekend was an apple festival with a barbeque and homemade items made from apples; like apple pies and apple cider. The proceeds from the baked goods went to the Rainbow girls. The Rainbow Girls are a non-profit organization that help develop leadership in girls.

During the weekends in September the Ranch opens their doors to anyone who wants homegrown, fresh apples. Date Creek Ranch offers free picking and the apples cost $1.10 a pound, cash or check only. During apple season,  you can come anytime between 7:00am and 3:00pm on Saturdays and Sundays.  They will also supply you with all the tools to pick apples.  The season is over for 2014, but mark your calendars for next season!

I don’t believe it either. I really like your article, it really drew my attention, since I thought there was no possible way we would have an apple orchard in Arizona. Great job! :)
