Thursday, September 17, a 5’th grader is being saluted for his bravery shortly after helping kindergartners out of a school bus that had crashed into¬†a lake at the time just upstate in Florida. The kid whose name is¬†Nicholas “Nico” Sierra who had been recently appointed as a school safety patrol officer, had been on the bus when its brakes had went out of control that very day.

The 64-year old bus driver had tried to stop the bus, but it went off the road and literally “made a splash” and landed on its side in the lake. Shortly after the bus crashed, the driver started to evacuate all 27 of the kids out the back emergency door, while the driver was attempting the escape, Nico rushed in to help the driver by pulling one of his friends out of the water, then he told her to wrap her arms around his back and carried her safely towards shore.

Nico then went back to the bus to help guide two more kids back to the lakeside. Afterwards, the evacuation was a success, and everyone made it out of the bus. When Nico’s parents heard about their son’s heroic deeds, they were not surprised. ” Nico’s a very brave kid and he always helps everyone around him,” Nico’s mother explains to People.

If it had not been for Nico’s help, not all of the 27 elementary school students would have made it. If you want to read more about this amazing story go to either
