Ford Idea of Tesla-like Cars

27 Oct 2014 by Matthew Kwan, No Comments »

Ford has an idea on creating cars similar to Tesla cars. Ford CEO Mark Fields said in a conference call that the Ford company is considering this idea. Mark Fields had said Ford has the engineering and manufacturing sophistication of creating a car similar to the Tesla Model S. Ford purchased a Tesla Model S and Fields said, “We drove it. We took it apart. We put it back together and we drove it again.”

Ford said they had no intention of copying the Tesla Model S (a big, four-door hatchback sedan.) Ford also said the vehicle Ford would make would be larger, have better performance and greater range than the Focus electric.

Ford’s earnings this quarter are down. Ford showed 1.2 billion dollars in profit this year where as to a year earlier 2.6 billion dollars in profit was shown. This idea of Ford’s may cause an increase in the amount of profit shown which will benefit Ford for their profits.

Now this idea may not happen because Ford is only thinking of competing with Tesla (which can be clever) however Ford might drop the idea. A main difference between the two companies in the electric vehicle area is Ford is more mass market where Tesla is more clientele.
