Eagles @ Cardinals

Sunday, October 26th caused a whole lot of commotion at the University of Phoenix Stadium. Both Eagles’ and Cardinals’ fans were¬†hooting and hollering for almost 3 and a half straight hours! The Arizona Cardinals hosted a must win game for both teams against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The first quarter went back and forth for several minutes on end with nothing but great defense by both teams; however, this didn’t last the whole quarter. Bad reading and responding by the Cardinals’ secondary put 7 points on the board for Philadelphia with a short screen play with great blocking. This allowed Jeremy Maclin to take Nick Foles’ pass 21 yards for the touchdown. This was the only score of the quarter. The second quarter was a completely different story.

In the second quarter of the game, the Cardinals responded to the previous quarter’s scoring play by making a very impressive drive and punching in their own touchdown with a 1 yard run by the halfback, Andre Ellington. With the score tied at 7-7, the Eagles needed a good drive to make a statement to the Arizona defense that no matter how hard they play, the Eagles can top it. This did not go very well for the Eagles’ head coach, Chip Kelly. The Philadelphia offense was once again entering the red zone when an excellent strip was made and the fumbled ball was recovered by Arizona’s rookie safety, Deone Bucannon. Not too long after that, the punt team came on the field and gave it back to Chip Kelly’s prestige offensive players. This will later on result in a stunning 40 yard interception by Antonio Cromartie from the end zone. Other than the one touchdown run by Ellington, the entire second quarter was scoreless.

After halftime, Arizona would get the ball back to start off a very high scoring third quarter. 41 seconds into the quarter, the Cardinals had spent time throwing incomplete passes when out of no where, on third down, Larry Fitzgerald ran a short slant route and ran it 80 yards for the first touchdown of the half. At a 14-7 game with the Eagles trailing, Philadelphia took it as an opportunity to get a field goal and a touchdown with Jeremy Maclin to make it a 3 point game, 17-14. At 1:03 seconds left in the third quarter, the Eagles make an impressive play on Andre Ellington, hitting him hard enough to jar the ball loose from his grip and the fumble was recovered by the defense.

The fourth quarter started not too long after that. The impressive fumble ended in a drive that gave a second interception to Antonio Cromartie for 18 yards. The Cardinals and the Eagles both got field goals after that, but the winning touchdown came from John Brown just over 1 minute before the game ended. The rookie caught a 75 yard touchdown pass from Carson Palmer to seal the game.

This was a great game to experience at the home stadium and I was full of suspense throughout the entire game. I can’t wait to go back to University of Phoenix Stadium!
