Technology and science has surprised us again. The University of Engineering and Technology of Peru created a billboard that creates fresh air.

Engineers at the school say the new billboard’s structure includes purifying filters that release oxygen into the air “as effectively as 1,200 trees.” It filters large volumes of pollution particles using a Peruvian designed thermodynamic water system. They believe a five block radius is benefiting from the 3.5 million cubic feet of fresh oxygen each day,” states GoodNewsNetwork.

The creators created the magical billboard in hopes that more and more people will pursue careers in engineering and that technology can help with so many problems.

In Lima, Peru, running water is a problem; it’s not necessarily clean. “Due to the extremely dry climate with an annual precipitation of less than 1 inch, most people draw water from wells that are often polluted. On the other hand, the atmospheric humidity in Lima approximates 98%,” according to Big Think.

Now, you may ask, how does this billboard actually work? Well “the billboard works through a reverse osmosis system, capturing the air humidity, condensing and purifying the water, and filling it up in 20 liter tanks. In 3 months the billboard has produced 9450 liters, making hundreds of families happy and eager to see similar systems in other towns,” according to Daily Mail Online.

This billboard produces clean, fresh water AND cleans pollution! Isn’t that amazing! What do you think engineers will create next to help the Earth?
