A fun- filled day full of much laughter, color, and enjoyment was the perfect way to describe Thursday, March 26th, 2015. This day proved to be a special and memorable day at Hillcrest! Hillcrest had its very own Boosterthon Color Run just for students! This marked the 1st Color Run to ever take place at Hillcrest! The Boosterthon Color Run involved all Hillcrest students in a fun, team building, fitness event while helping the school raise much-needed funds, which would go towards technology at Hillcrest. We set a goal to raise a total of $10,000 and Hillcrest came through not only meeting our goal of $10,000, but exceeding our goal, with an estimated $13,000 raised. Way to go everyone!

Now for the logistics of the Color Run! Without Hillcrest’s PTSA, the Color Run would not have occurred, or even been possible. I would like to give a special shoutout to Mrs. Jeanne Prince. Jeanne Prince is the President of Hillcrest’s PTSA and she did a FANTASTIC job putting the whole event together! Way to go Jeanne Prince!

So, because there were so many students wanting to take part in this year’s Color Run, it had to be split up into three times. Starting at around 11:30 AM is when cores 8-2 and 7-3 ran. Next, cores 8-1 and 7-2 partook in the Color Run at about 12:55 PM. Finally, at about 2:05 PM, cores 8-3 and 7-1 joined the fun. As each set of cores arrived onto the field for the run, all students were instructed and informed about the overall course we would be running, the rules, and all safety precautions. Afterwards, one Boosterthon member would randomly pick a student to volunteer to hold up the American flag for the National Anthem. And, shortly thereafter, the Boosterthon Color Run was on its way!

Two obstacles were set up on the field. On each of the 4 tables there were a few bags of colored powder. Teachers from each of the two cores along with parents and Boosterthon volunteers divided and gathered amongst each of the 4 tables. Students walked the first lap as a group to get a feel for the course and once complete, the students were free to run the remaining laps. The next hour or so of running was tons of fun as teachers chucked cups of bright, vibrant colors at the students running as they completed each lap!

Once again, all students had an absolute blast out on the field! I would like to thank the PTSA once more for doing a fabulous job organizing, preparing, running, and putting the whole color run together. As well, a thanks to Mrs. Hazleton and Ms. Weeks for approving the run!

After the Color Run I spotted many students admiring how colorful they were, taking selfies, enjoying the company of their friends, and all in all, living in the moment. Make sure to take a peak at the awesome photos below.
