8th Grade Students Create Successful Pizza

Who doesn’t love pizza? I always enjoy a nice cheese pizza! What about classwork? Not so much. What if we combined the two and it resulted in bacon mac & cheese pretzel stuffed crust pizza? I’m in! Eighth-graders in New Jersey got to experience this combination.

A math teacher at Clearview Middle School in New Jersey challenged her students to come up with ideas for new food products and pitch them to companies after collecting data. Nick Gabriele, Sean Flannery, and Allyson Sooy created Bacon Mac and Cheese Stuffed Crust Pizza and pitched the product to Pizza Hut. It was so impressive that it made its way to Pizza Hut’s CEO and earned the kids a pizza party featuring their pizza.

Pizza Hut and the math teacher planned the pizza party. During a math test, the three students were told to read a letter from Pizza Hut. The letter told the three to head on down to their school’s multipurpose room. The kids were in awe!

This pitch stood out to Pizza Hut for many reasons. “This was really unique in the fact that there was a lot of teamwork involved as well as innovation. They were taking four great products and combining them into one — bacon, mac n’ cheese, pretzels and stuffed crust. And is does taste amazing.” said Barbie King, the company’s head of new product development.
