2 Komodo dragons die 1 week apart

The Komodo dragon exhibit at the Phoneix zoo became silent as two of its inhabitants, Ivan and Gaia died just one week apart. On Friday, the Phoenix zoo announced that the two siblings died from age. They were ending the normal life span of a komodo dragon. Ivan, a 120 pound lizard started to slow down, he didn’t eat as much and needed a splint due to arthritis. Gaia, Ivan’s sister seemed healthy so her death was unexpected.

These siblings attracted quite a crowd when the first came to the zoo in November 2009, they attracted a crowd of 10,000 people. When the zoo first got them they were 10-12 inches long and weighed about ½ a pound. Whenever an animal dies, the zoo thinks of them as family.

Three recent additions to the Phoenix Zoo include two baby Komodo dragons, (pictured) and a Chinese alligator.
